Dalhousie Hong Kong Alumni Association organized its Annual Spring Dinner this year on Friday, March 20. The event was a resounding success, marked by the presence of Mr. Charles Edwin Reeves, Consul General of Canada to Hong Kong & Macao, as Guest of Honor. Remarkably, he attended despite a personal vow to avoid Friday evening functions — a promise he had faithfully kept for the past eighteen months. His decision to break that long-standing commitment underscored the significance of this occasion. This event held particular meaning for him, as Mr. Reeves is a proud Nova Scotian from Annapolis Valley with extensive diplomatic experience in China and Australia before coming to Hong Kong.
In addition to the DAL alumni originated from Hong Kong, two DAL alumni from Shenzhen in Mainland China also travelled across the border to attend the event. Key representatives from some other universities in the Maritimes were also invited to attend. It is worth mentioning that among the participants were Dr. Roy Wong and Mr. David Yu who had studied in both Saint Mary's University and Dalhousie University.
The Spring Dinner was held at the Leighton Room of Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC) in Happy Valley. It was an 8‑course Chinese‑style dinner with two large, round tables. As more than half of the participants were senior citizens, the generous spread may have been more than necessary. A 6‑course format, featuring more delicacies from Nova Scotia, Canada, could provide a lighter yet more meaningful dining experience for future gatherings.
Many thanks go to Joe Su, Ming Luk and other committee members of Dalhousie Hong Kong Alumni Association who organized such a wonderful event. We are looking forward to another wonderful event in the coming year.
