Stephen Mak, an alumnus of Acadia University, organized a gathering on Thursday, July 31 in the evening. Key representatives from some other universities in Nova Scotia, including Saint Mary's University and Dalhousie University, were invited to attend. In addition to the Acadia alumni originated from Hong Kong, a couple of Acadia alumni, Wayne and Rekha, from Canada who are now residing in Hong Kong also attended the event.
The gathering was held at The Bar, Hong Kong Bankers Club, at the 3rd Floor of Nexxus Building in Central. Prosecco - an Italian sparkling wine, red and white wines as well as fruit juice were offered by the Bar for ALL-WE-CAN-DRINK. Snacks were also ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT including both Western and oriental flavours as follows:
During the gathering, Wayne of Acadia University, had mentioned two interesting things that most of us had not heard of. The first thing is about the Bay of Fundy which is the inlet of the Atlantic Ocean between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia and is also the most productive scallop-bearing grounds in Canada. Wayne was helping his family to harvest scallops when he was younger. He showed us a photo that the size of scallops there is quite large, sometimes as large as a human palm. The second thing is about Sable Island which, according to Wayne, is about a two-hour voyage from Halifax. Sable Island National Park Reserve is a national park reserve established in June 2013. The area is protected against oil and natural gas drilling, and is known for its feral breed of Sable Island horses, amounting to over 550 ponies.
We all enjoyed the food and drinks very much and lingered around beyond the time limit. The Manager of the Bar, who is acquainted to Stephen, let us stay longer without any penalty. We are looking forward to a similar event in the coming year.
